Master Plan Update

Airport Master Plan Update

In an effort to provide a balanced Airport system that stays ahead of projected growth, PIE has contracted PBS&J (consultants) to conduct a 20-year Master Plan Update. The top priorities for the Master Plan include the following evaluations:
     *   Major upgrade or replacement of terminal facilities.
     *   Best use of Airco Golf Course and Moog property.
     *   Airport access to C.R. 296 and Roosevelt Blvd.
     *   Airport multi-modal center - high speed rail terminus, light rail interface.
     *   Consolidated air cargo center.
     *   Closure of runway 9/27.

In March of this year, following numerous meetings, interviews and research, the first working paper of the Master Plan Udate was released. This draft included the issues and existing conditions inventory, socio-economic influences, and aviation forecasts. Shortly, the FAA and FDOT will be reviewing this data. Following their approval, the second phase of the Master Plan Update will be underway, including the demand/capacity analysis, facility requirements, and alternatives analysis.

Demand/Capacity Analysis
The demand/capacity analysis will  analyze the the ability of the current facilities at the Airport to meet forcast planning activity levels. Based on the forecasts, projected aviation demand will be compared to the existing capacity of the facilities at the Airport, to identify areas where additional facilities and improvements are necessary. This comparison will then be used to determine facility requirements for the Airport, over the planning period.

Facility Requirements
The facility requirements study will idenify the facility requirements necessary to meet projected aviation demand at the Airport, as documented in the demand/capacity analysis. Before conceptual planning can commence, it is imiportant that the facility requirements necessary to accommodate forecasted demand be identified. This information will be used to develope alternatives for future expansion and phasing concepts that are based on forecasted activity levels.

Alternatives Analysis
The alternatives analysis will identify an overall development plan that will meet the Airport's long-term aviation needs. Once the airside and landside facility requirements that would satisfy projected demand over the planning period have been identified, the next step in the Master Planning process is to evaluate the various ways these facilities can be provided. The faciliy needs will be applied to a series of Airport development alternatives.

COMING SOON!
In the next few months the 20-year development program for the Airport will come together. During that time there will be opportunities to learn  more about the Airport Master Plan Update, and to provide input. Stay tuned for meeting dates for these Airport Business Development Committee meetings and public information meetings.
