The St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport (PIE) announces that its largest carrier, ATA Airlines, will begin new daily service between New York-LaGuardia and St. Petersburg, Fla. The new non-stop service commences on Saturday, May 1, 2004. New York is consistently in the top five feeder destinations for visitors to the St. Petersburg-Clearwater area.

The carrier has also added seasonal service to San Juan, Puerto Rico three times per week beginning June 1, 2004, serving the needs of our growing Latin American population, and both business and leisure travelers.

In response to the demands of the traveling public, ATA will soon discontinue its morning, non-stop service to Los Angeles to better serve a higher need route. On April 26, 2004, flight #115 will be the last non-stop scheduled departure to LAX out of PIE.

"We are delighted to see ATA add additional, affordable service to New York City and San Juan, Puerto Rico. As the Airport's largest carrier, ATA continues to grow its air service to our vital markets in order to best serve the needs of Pinellas County and the traveling public." -Noah Lagos, A.A.E., Airport Director.

Now celebrating its 31st year of operation and its 13th year with the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport, ATA is the nation's 10th largest passenger carrier (based on revenue passenger miles) and is one of the nation's largest low fare carriers. As of June 1, ATA will operate a total of 51 weekly flights from PIE, giving both business and leisure travelers easy access to ATA's network of destinations. The airline operates significant scheduled service from St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Chicago-Midway, Hawaii, Indianapolis, New York and San Francisco to over 40 business and vacation destinations. ATA has one of the youngest, most fuel-efficient fleets among the major carriers, featuring the new Boeing 737-800 and 757-300 aircraft.
