Airport Proposes to Build T-Hangars
Airport proposes to build T-hangars
On February 22, 2005, the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) adopted a Resolution to request a Grant Amendment from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to reprogram $3,900,000 of existing Grant funds previously obligated for terminal expansion to recover lost operating revenues associated with the recent loss of air service. Additionally, the Airport requested FDOT to reprogram $2,000,000 of our fiscal year 2005 Capital Improvement Budget for the design and construction of 75+ T-Hangars and related improvements. Future Grant Amendments will be brought before the BCC for their approval providing funding for lost revenue and T-Hangar development.
The new hangars will house single-engine and small twin-engine aircraft. The proposed site for the additional T-hangars is located in the northeast corner of the airport adjacent to approximately 122 existing T-hangars. This site had been previously designated for this type of use. The exact number of new hangars will be determined during the engineering and design phase. It is anticipated that construction of the T-hangars will be completed during year 2007. Airco Golf Course will not be affected by the development of these additional T-Hangars. The new T-hangar complex is essential to the Airport’s ability to generate new revenue and remain self-sustaining especially in view of the recent loss of air service.
