Airport Noise and Airspace Studies Phase 1 Projects
Airport Noise and Airspace Studies Phase I Projects
At the request of the Aircraft Noise Abatement Task Force (Task Force), the County contracted with two consultants to perform studies involving aircraft noise levels and the approach and departure procedures for the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport.
The February 23rd meeting of the Task Force served as a kick-off of the Airspace Study. Consultants Jeppesen Sanderson, Inc. will identify and evaluate new approach and departure procedures and evaluate the potential for higher departure altitude clearances. Jeppesen's presentation is available by clicking here. The Scope of Work and project timelines for Phase I and Phase II/III are also available online. (Click on the Phase you wish to view).
At the March 16th Task Force Meeting, Wyle Laboratories Aviation Services Group (Wyle (Wyle Labs) kicked off the Aircraft Noise Study. The Noise Study will provide real-time noise level monitoring in communities surrounding the Airport. Ten monitoring sites selected by the Task Force will be used. Wyle Labs will identify the current and future (5 year) noise contours and will evaluate any new noise abatement procedures proposed by Jeppesen during the Airspace Study. Wyle Labs made a presentation introducing the tasks and phases of the Noise Study. This presentation my be viewed by clicking here. Wyle Labs also provided an overview of the basics of acoustics, aircraft noise and noise abatement. This presentation may be viewed by clicking here.
