Noise Abatement Procedure temporarily out of service -
Effective 1/9/12, the “VOR” is out of service. The VOR is one of many a navigational aids to help guide planes to the airport used in noise abatement. During this outage, aircraft will not be able to fly the preferred noise abatement approach known as “VOR-B approach”. There are other approaches that aircraft can use to mitigate noise, but they have restrictions. The North Bay Visual Approach offers the same track over the bay, but cannot be used during hours of darkness or during weather with low clouds or reduced visibility.
The VOR is estimated to be back in service within 30 days. In anticipation of this outage, we have worked with the airlines that can fly the VOR-B to encourage pilots to use alternate approaches when available to help minimize impacts to the surrounding communities.
Thank you for your understanding.
